Held annually since 2006, The Calbron Cup is a highlight of the social calendar at Mersea Island RFC.

Initially started as a small event at Colchester RFC to allow Cal Brennan, who was born with a rare condition that requires him to have 24/7 care, to play rugby alongside local and professional players from his wheelchair.

The Cup moved to Mersea in 2010 and has since grown into a huge event attended by all ages, genders and abilities.

The game is divided into sections to allow everyone to play a game of either touch or contact rugby, with the eventual winners receiving the coveted Calbron Cup.

Teams are selected by Cal and his uncle Danny Blacklock, former Mersea and Colchester 1st XV Captain, and limited to 5 current first team players from Colchester or Mersea, no more than 2 professional players and no more than 2 Australians...as Cal has been known to be a little strategic in the past!

The game is followed by a meal and drinks, with all the money raised donated to The Mersea Island Festival Trust.

Meet at 10.30am for 11am kick off.
